Eatons Expands its Circuit-Breakers Product Range

Bonn . .  As one of the leading manufacturers of components and systems for electrical engineering and automation, Eaton is launching a new circuit breaker for the American Market. Unlike PKZM4 motorprotective circuit-breakers, the PKZM4-..-CB circuit breakers are provided with large creepage and clearance distances at the incoming and outgoing main current terminals. The new device height is therefore 165 mm. These changes and extensive testing have made it possible for the switches to be approved as fully-fledged circuit-breakers to UL 489 / CSA C22.2-5.09. On the PKZM4-..-CB, the current flow direction can be set as required - as is the case with the entire Eaton range of circuit-breakers.

The circuit-breakers can be used as branch circuit protective devices (BCPD) in feeder and branch circuits. The switches can also be used for protecting non-motor loads. In order to use the PKZM4-CB, contactors and frequency inverters must be approved for protection by circuit-breakers.

Motors will continue to be switched and protected by the Type E and Type F motor starters based on UL 508. Three types are on offer: Firstly PKZM4-16-CB (adjustable 10 - 16 A), secondly PKZM4-25-CB (adjustable 18 - 25 A) and thirdly PKZM4-32-CB (adjustable 24 - 32 A). The SCCR (short-circuit current rating) of the circuit-breakers is 65 kA for 480Y/277 V and 22 kA for 600Y/347 V, and they have a device width of only 55 mm. They are consequently turning into genuine problem solvers thanks to the high SCCR and suitability for 600Y/347 V.
