Eaton Presents "Lean Automation Solutions" at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2010 Fair in Nuremberg.

Bonn. . . Since its takeover of Moeller (2008) and Micro Innovation (2009), the Electrical Sector EMEA of the global power management company Eaton is presenting itself for the first time as one consolidated entity at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2010 in Nuremberg. The stand area of 490 sq m on the important German automation fair has also grown with the product portfolio.

Frank Campbell, President Electrical Sector EMEA, says: "Our fair presentation demonstrates the very good development of our business. Today we now have a complete portfolio for industrial automation. The purchase of Micro Innovation was an important step, so that we could not only offer our customers power distribution products and systems but also complete automation solutions."

With "Lean Connectivity" and "Lean Automation" Eaton is presenting another main focus at this year's SPS/IPC/DIVES fair. "Lean" describes the ability to identify every type of waste and thus optimize every process continuously and consistently. Lean automation "slims down" control panels, simplifies wiring, increases data transparency and performance, whilst reducing costs - now to a degree previously unknown. Lean automation is also synonymous with fewer error sources and greater flexibility with modular machine concepts.

Lean connectivity forms the basis for lean automation. For this Eaton's SmartWire-DT switchgear communication and connection system provides the foundation. The outstanding benefit of SmartWire-DT comes from the elimination of control wiring and the simplified commissioning and engineering design. Several practice evaluations verify SW-DT as a significant means of reducing the otherwise usual installation and wiring costs - by more than 60 percent. For small and medium-sized machine building applications, the previously high design engineering requirement arising from the use of PLC I/O modules can now be reduced by up to 30%. With SmartWire-DT material costs can be reduced by up to 20%.

Other highlights at the fair are the new 5.7", 8.4" and 10.4" XV150 touch display controllers with resistive touch technology and color TFT display, which offer an optimum solution especially for the price sensitive sector. They stand out for their high quality aluminum fronts with protection to IP65, rugged metal housings and an especially flat design.

Eaton is also presenting its new XC202 PLC which is designed as a high performance controller. A high-speed RISC processor (532 MHz) and a larger memory (4 MB) provide considerably greater resources for communication tasks. The special feature of the new controller is the fact that users can access it via different IP addresses.

For the first time at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2010 fair Eaton is presenting the perfect collaboration between the Eaton Electrical and Eaton Hydraulic businesses. Automation components such as HMI/PLCs communicate via CANopen perfectly with intelligent Eaton hydraulic valves. Complete automation solutions including hydraulic actuators can thus be obtained from a single source.

The theme of "Efficiency" is also playing an important role. After all, sustainable and efficient thinking and behavior also ensure long-term success in the automation world. Innovative technologies help to speed up processes and reduce the energy requirements of companies overall. Eaton energy measuring and communication modules for compact circuit-breakers and load break switches ensure transparent energy consumption. "Energy leaks" are identified so that specific energy saving measures can be implemented.
