Energy efficiency
Energy Saving Made Easy: Only Three Steps
Eatons Moeller business has fully upgraded its product portfolio in recent years and has focused consistently on energy efficiency. Energy measuring and management systems, energy-efficient contactors, control circuit devices with LED technology, as well as variable speed drives today make a significant contribution to energy savings in machine and system building applications.
Step one: Energy consumption analysis with MCx energy measuring modules.
For greater transparency in the energy consumption of buildings or production plants, Eaton Moeller offers a new range of MCx energy measuring and communication modules for compact circuit-breakers and switch-disconnectors up to 630A. MCx modules provide all the relevant measuring data required: This includes phase and N conductor currents, rms voltages, active, reactive and apparent power, as well as power factor (cos phi). In this way, a detailed power consumption analysis can be drawn up. If "energy leaks" are identified, users can take specific energy saving measures.
Step two: Intelligent energy management
Energy saving with easyRelay. Energy is often really wasted. Even simple control solutions save considerable amounts of energy and reduce CO2 emissions if the on/off switching of consumers is implemented efficiently according to use. For this, easy control relays offer a wide range of possible applications: Example: Shop window lighting - save electrical energy with effective night switchoff function. Greenhouse ventilation - save heating costs with automated ventilation. humidity-controlled watering - save electricity thanks to automated watering.
Further examples of possible energy savings with the easy controller family are shown in the online training center (www.moeller.net, Quicklink-ID: OTC).
Energy efficient drive technology:
Optimum energy savings potential with intelligent electrical drive technology. According to the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI), energy saving motors with an electronic drive control could reduce German electricity demand by 38 TWh a year. Based on the present power station mix, the environmental pollution could be reduced annually by 23 million tons of CO2. For Europe, the European Commission estimates the saving potential at 135 TWh, on account of which the EuP Directive has drawn up regulations on energy-efficient three-phase motors and electric drives. Two key dates are important. Firstly, June 16, 2011 - Only size 0.75 to 375 KW three-phase motors can be brought into circulation in Europe, with energy efficiency class IE2. Secondly, January 1, 2015 - IE2 motors sold after this date can only be used with electronic speed controls. Eaton's Moeller business already offers a wide range of frequency inverters and soft starters for the speed control of electric motors.
Fan control with M-Max frequency inverter: 30 % energy saving
Supply and exhaust air fans in buildings or production facilities are mostly operated in continuous operation at 100 percent output with DOL starters. Damper flaps often control the air volume. Furthermore, overdesigned drives are often in use. If the power of the ventilation system is regulated with speed controlled fans, up to 30 percent energy savings are possible, depending on the system in question. The speed can be controlled by Eaton Moeller M-MAX frequency inverters: Internal protection circuits and the option of an automatic restart, as well as automatic synchronization to the running fan motor ensure energy-efficient operation. The amortization period for the additional investment is two to three years.
Step three: Energy-efficient low-voltage switchgear DILM contactors with electronic coil control: 5-10 % energy saving
Contactors produce a great deal of heat. As the power required to close the contacts is greater than the power required when the contact is closed, the new contactor generation was provided with drives that adapt their energy electronically to the switching state, and only provide the energy required for switching and holding. The power balance of the drives and the ratio of switched effective power to required auxiliary energy can be considerably improved with xStart contactors. The DC sealing power is only 0.5 to 2.1 W for all contactor drives from 17 to 170 A, this saves five to ten percent compared to conventional contactors. Control circuit devices with LED indicator elements: 88 % energy saving Eaton Moeller RMQ control circuit devices combine the latest design with optimum functionality. The ergonomic button elements are ideal for use in machines and systems. Durable LEDs only use a fraction of the power and produce considerably less heat than filament lamps. LEDs are also vibration proof. They can function for 100,000 hours nonstop without losing the information of the signal. The values speak for themselves: LED 0.24 W/24V, filament lamp 2.0 W/24V.
