xStart DS7 Soft Starter - With Integrated Fan

DS7 is the name of the new soft starter series in Eaton Moeller's xStart system, which expands the tried and tested range of switchgear. Connection design, handling and the 45 mm device width match the motor-protective circuit-breakers and contactors of the device series exactly. The key feature of the system is the toolless plug connection, ensuring easy connection and wiring with other switching devices such as motor-protective circuitbreakers or motor protective relays. Regardless of whether they are used for conventional PKZ or new PKE motor-protective circuit-breakers with electronic wide-range overload protection, the PKZM0-XDM adapters enable the DS7 to be wired reliably - finger-safe and neatly - in a few seconds.

The new DILM12-XMCP-T motor connector enables a motor to be plug connected to the soft starter with the same degree of ease. Conventional terminal strips in the switching cabinet for connecting the motor are thus no longer necessary. Like all two-phase actuated soft starters from Eaton Moeller, the DS7 soft starter comes with a patented startup procedure which ensures a powerful motor startup: Thanks to the suppression of DC components which normally occur with two-phase control, startups with the DS7 are faster with a more even and stronger torque than with soft starters without this startup procedure. In order to allow more startups per hour, the DS7 can be fitted with a fan inside the device - making the usual externally fitted fans unnecessary. The fan is simply fitted as required inside the device, thus keeping the external dimensions the same. The connection elements to the motor-protective circuit-breaker or to the motor protective relay also remain unrestricted and fully available for use.

Thanks to this feature, the DS7 can be fully integrated in the xStart system, thus replacing the mechanical contactor and expanding the application range. Whether for three-phase inductive loads, a noise-free and gentle motor start for transport and conveying systems, a wear-free and contactless pump start, or for starting fan drives with less wear on the drive belt, the soft start of the DS7 ensures a jerk-free increase in torque and effective current reduction in the startup phase for many applications. Users can adjust the drive optimally to application requirements, and only three potentiometers are used to set the starting/stopping ramps and the starting voltage. Nine device versions for motor ratings from 1.1kW to 15kW/ 400V or 3A to 32A/ 480V are available. Furthermore, versions are available with a 24 V AC/DC or 110/230 V control voltage input. In order to increase system availability with condition monitoring, the DS7 provides diagnostics functions that can be evaluated remotely via a SmartWire-Darwin interface. Settings and status values can be transferred simply and easily to the fieldbus level via the SmartWire-Darwin gateway regardless of whether Profibus DP or CANopen control commands are used for communication. The DS7 soft starter will be available from Q1/ 2010.
