Eaton Introduces New W-VACi IEC Medium Voltage Circuit Breaker Portfolio
Bonn . . . Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced the introduction of its new and comprehensive line of W-VACi medium voltage (MV) vacuum circuit breakers with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) ratings of 12 kilovolts (kV), 17.5kV and 24kV. W-VACi circuit breakers are designed specifically to offer reliability, safety and performance in a compact, environmentally friendly and cost-effective package.
The new W-VACi portfolio is an addition to Eaton’s extensive family of global MV switchgear solutions, building on the company’s long history of industry leading vacuum interruption and solid insulation technologies. W-VACi circuit breakers are entirely free of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas.
W-VACi vacuum circuit breakers are designed and third-party tested to the latest IEC 62271-100 and IEC 62271-1 standards. As confirmation of their reliability and durability, they also meet or exceed the electrical and mechanical endurance requirements of E2 and M2 in accordance with IEC 62271-100.
The W-VACi circuit breakers are available with IEC ratings of 12 kV and 17.5 kV (up to 50 kiloamperes (kA) and 3150 amperes (A) or with forced cooling up to 4000 A), and 24 kV (up to 25 kA and 2500 A). They can be used in an extensive scope of applications such as the protection of transformers, capacitor banks, motors, busbar sections and cables, as well as special environment conditions. They are offered with both 50 Hertz (Hz) and 60 Hz capabilities and serve all major end-user segments such as industrial, commercial, utility, mining, marine, oil and gas, and offshore.
The W-VACi IEC circuit breakers consist of three key building blocks: vacuum interrupters (VI), epoxy resin encapsulated pole units (EPU), and universal mechanism assembly (UMA). Each building block has specific benefits to create a circuit breaker that promotes safety, reliability and performance.
Eaton vacuum interrupters are sealed for life and require no maintenance. For maximum durability, performance and compactness, the vacuum interrupters are encapsulated in epoxy resin, protecting them from mechanical impact and environmental conditions such as humidity and dust. The W-VACi circuit breakers use a simple modular operating mechanism that is common across all circuit breaker ratings, making the W-VACi family extremely user-friendly. Due to its modular design, material selection and limited number of moving parts, the W-VACi mechanism assembly requires minimal inspection during its long life.
The W-VACi IEC circuit breakers offer numerous safety features for the highest level of user protection. They are complemented by an extensive portfolio of circuit breaker accessories that fit all breaker sizes, reducing inventory parts for customers and simplifying the purchasing process. W-VACi accessories are easy to mount and wire, minimizing installation time and cost.
To provide users with maximum flexibility, W-VACi circuit breakers are available globally in both withdrawable and fixed configurations. They can be packaged with Eaton’s circuit breaker compartment kits for panel builders/original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and are also offered in Eaton’s new Power Xpert® UX IEC switchgear design.
