New Version of Moeller CurveSelect V1.06: Characteristics program for protective devices - from medium voltage up to the motor and from the feeder to the miniature circuit-breaker.
For all levels of switching devices to work effectively in a switchboard, their tripping characteristics need to be compared in order to assess selectivity for high system availability. All evaluations require the use of tripping curves which take into account the individual settings made on each protective device. This is not possible with printed catalogue information. Moeller's CurveSelect software tool enables the actual tripping characteristics of several protective devices to be displayed jointly with a minimum of effort on the same time and current scales. This considerably simplifies the assessment of all the settings made. Modifications and optimisations can be carried out directly and alternatives can be compared. Version 1.06 now features freely definable curve characteristics. These enable any number of curves to be considered. The characteristics curve is entered in the graph using a table of simple time/current point pairs. Only a few support points are required to produce meaningful curves thanks to the automatic interpolation and smoothing functions.
Here are some typical application examples:
- Medium-voltage fuses can be displayed directly in a view after a simple conversion with the transformer ratio.
- Motor startup curves can be written with only a few characteristics points, and this can be used for the optimum selection and setting of characteristics for motor protection.
- Existing protective devices can be incorporated in a new project, such as for expanding or modifying power distribution systems.
Another new feature of CurveSelect are the curves of miniature circuit-breakers with their different characteristics. In this way the interaction of all the essential switching and protective devices can be assessed: NZM and IZM circuit-breakers, PKZM motor-protective circuit-breakers, ZB overload relays, low-voltage h.b.c. fuses with gL/gG characteristics and – new in version 1.06 – miniature circuit-breakers with B/C/D/K/S/Z characteristics, as well as freely definable time/current characteristics.
Moeller CurveSelect, including documentation, can be downloaded free of charge from the Internet. The Moeller tool consisting of a Microsoft Excel file is easy to use: All the functions are available on the PC at the click of a mouse and no administrator rights are required. After the protective device is selected all the necessary information is entered step by step via menu-driven selection options and correction help is provided in plain text during the process. Thanks to its eleven languages the simple planning tool is also suitable for use in international projects. The time-current graph for all curves shown can be stored or printed out with the actual project designations as project documentation or copied to other documents.
