xStart Contactors: The New Generation.

Moeller has been continuously further developing DILM contactors since their market launch four years ago. The new types DILM15, DILM38, DILM72 and DILM170 add more efficient and economical Eco contactors to Moeller's range: In addition to an improved contact design and the use of new contact materials, it was also possible to increase the performance. The new xStart generation now offers an optimum cost/benefit ratio on the basis of intensive testing and a large number of examinations. The result is outstanding: Moeller has lowered the list prices for the ratings of the Eco variants by up to 12 percent. The compact Eco contactors also allow users to save space in the switch cabinet. With an electrical lifespan of 500000 (DILM 38) and 750000 (DILM15, DILM72, DILM170) switch operations, Eco contactors are a genuine alternative to the established contactor series in most applications.

xStart switching devices replace conventional wiring with pluggable main and control current connections. While motor starters were previously connected with cumbersome cables or bridges between motor-protective circuit-breaker and contactor, contact is now implemented by means of mechanical plug-in modules – the combine motor-protective circuit-breakers and contactors into stable units. The tool-less connection technology offers fast and error-free wiring without the need for any tools.

xStart contactors offer practical features in the series. For example, grooved contact surfaces with eight contact points ensure reliable contacting with auxiliary contacts, even with small loads. Motor filters and other auxiliary contacts, as well as accessories can be plugged onto the contactor from the top, and all the required openings are perfectly encapsulated. Electronic circuits created by the user can also be positioned on the contactor using solder pin adapters.

DIL contactors up to 170 A are provided with box terminals with two terminal chambers. All connections can be arranged on the front and are also accessible from here. Another user-friendly feature: contactors with AC and DC drives have identical design geometries. This means that contactor accessories, including the wiring systems, can be used irrespective of voltage type. All DC operated contactors are factory shipped with an integrated suppressor circuit. DC operated contactors also feature an electronic drive.

Contactors up to 38 A can be controlled directly from the PLC, thus eliminating the need for coupling relays. The low sealing power of the contactors allows a higher packing density and enables the use of smaller power supply units for the control current. This firstly optimises the space requirements in the switch cabinet and secondly reduces the heat that has to be removed by means of fans or climatic units. Wide range coils cover all the voltage variants with only a few types required. The basic unit of contactors DILM7 to DILM38 features an integrated auxiliary contact that can be designed as a break or make contact.

Contactors up to 38 A allow users to use Moeller's SmartWire technology: SmartWire replaces conventional control circuit wiring between the switchgear and the I/O modules of the PLC. A SmartWire module is simply plugged onto the conventional contactor and all SmartWire modules are interconnected with a pre-assembled SmartWire cable. Communication with the controller is then implemented with a CANopen or Profibus gateway. With SmartWire everything is plugged and not wired.
